Residency Benefits
1. Salaries
Salaries, as of December 1, 2003 are:
Chief Resident: $48,798
PGY1: $38,903
PGY2: $41,078
PGY3: $43,081
PGY4: $45,224
PGY5: $47,400
2. Paid and Unpaid Leaves
House staff physicians are entitled to the following paid leaves per academic
year:
a. 28 days vacation
b. 12 sick days
c. 12 holidays
d. 7 conference days
e. 3 bereavement days
In addition house staff physician may be granted maternity or paternity
leave to cover periods of pregnancy using their accumulated leave time
(sick, vacation and holiday) up to six months without pay.
3. Professional Liability
Professional Liability is provided by indemnification of all personnel
involved in direct patient care at all Cook County Health facilities in
accordance with Cook County Amended Ordinance 86-0-45, 11/3/86.
4. Health Benefits
JHSH of Cook County provides a comprehensive benefit package for house
staff physicians and their dependents. The benefits package includes health
insurance, dental coverage, vision plan, disability and long-term disability,
worker's compensation, life insurance, pension plan, and flexible spending
accounts. In addition the County provides the Employee Assistance Program
(EAP), which offers assistance with personal problems requiring professional
help.
5. Other Benefits
House staff physicians are provided with three meals and midnight snack
per day, seven days a week. Lab coats are provided and are laundered free
of charge. Four sets of scrubs are also provided on an annual basis. Twenty-four
hour parking access is provided at a competitive rate, currently $35 per
month. An educational allowance, currently $800 per year, is available
for reimbursement of expenses for conferences, seminars, review courses,
or books. In addition, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management
will pay the registration fee of all meetings held by Chicago Society
of Anesthesiologists.
