Residency in Anesthesiology Training
Program
Thank you for your interest in the Anesthesiology and Pain Management
Training Program at the JHSH of Cook County. The Department of Anesthesiology
and Pain Management at JHSH of Cook County offers both clinical base as
well as an advanced placement program. The Department of Anesthesiology
Residency Program uses only Electronic
Residency Application Service (ERAS) to process and review applications
from the candidate pool. The Program seeks applicants who demonstrate
proven scholarship, a high level of preparedness, ability, and aptitude,
communication skills, integrity, compassion, courage, and stability are
as important as enthusiasm for patient-care, teaching and research.
The Program prefers the following credentials:
- A Score above 195 on the USMLE Step I and II.
- Demonstrated excellence in the basic sciences and an
ability and aptitude in clinical medicine.
- Demonstrated interest in patient-care, teaching, community
service and research.
Applicants with one of the following
qualifications are eligible for appointment to the department's program:
- Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada
accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the
US accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Graduates of medical schools outside of the US and
Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
- have received a currently valid certificate
from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, or
- have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine
in the US licensing jurisdiction.
- Graduates of medical schools outside the US
who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited
medical school. For US graduates, the Dean's office of your medical
school will provide information and an ERAS application package for
you to use to prepare your application.

Applications are accepted from September 15, until the close of business
November 1. Although the early submission of your application is encouraged
we will continue to review applications through the deadline date, November
1.
We will notify you to offer you an invitation if your application is
accepted for interview. The interview dates are filled on a first-response-first-confirmed
basis. We plan to transmit electronic invitations beginning in September
for candidate interviews in November and December.
Our residents are selected through the
National Resident Match Program (NRMP). Criteria for including
applicants on the Rank Order List for the Match are a complete ERAS
application package and a personal interview with the department.

Pain Management Fellowship Program
The Division of Pain Management uses a multidisciplinary approach
for the management of acute and chronic pain. A team of anesthesiologists,
certified in pain management, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, an acupuncturist,
and a massage therapist participate in the overall therapeutic modalities.
They use noninvasive and invasive techniques to manage patients suffering
from acute and chronic pain to teach various techniques to pain fellows.
